Last winter I epoxied my cave floor with one of the products from Lowes. I don't think the brand really matters but maybe it does.

The problem is my golf cart tires leave tread stains on the surface where parked, which is almost anywhere depending on what I'm doing at the time. You can see the tread pattern on the floor. I've tried all kinds of cleaners, the only thing that has any effect is a foaming engine degreaser, but still not perfectly clean. My question is for the other epoxy floor guys here, are you having the same problem, and if so have you found a solution. Thanks in advance for any reply.

You've got a basic problem here which relates to the PHILOSOPHY of Cave management. You have been raised to be neat and tidy and clean. Cave dwelling means you jettison all these old fashioned ideas, and the result is FREEDOM. Get used to the idea that your Cave floor is SUPPOSED to be dirty, and suddenly all your problems are swept aside.

Too funny Towerman, too funny. I'm still waiting for the pix of that 20' hanging chair!

Now, Earnhardtjunkie sent me a pm about trying WD 40. What a pisser if that had worked, but no effect on the tire stains. I then had a brain cramp and tried Muriatic acid. No effect. EJ tried it on a shop floor and it cleaned real tire stains, but these are golf cart tires, fine for what they're intended for, but I'm sure these are a lower quality tire compound. I'll keep trying, as I know for every chemical application there is an equal but opposite chemical.

Well it's almost a year after the floor was epoxied, and still no joy. I wanted to post this in order to help others who want to epoxy.

First of all if you're painting bare concrete, you're going to need more than the prescribed amount. I've put 4 1 car kits on my 2 car garage, my buddy used 3 on his 1.5 car garage. And we both used all of it. Next, you're not going to get a high gloss shine from the paint alone. Rustoleum sells an epoxy high gloss clear coat for extreme high gloss.

Another important note, if you have cracks in your concrete, although the epoxy is fairly thick, it will not hide ANY cracks. You'll want to buy the crack filler in the caulk tube. I used a product from Lowes in the caulk section, very thick, no "grit", but takes a full week to cure! We filled the cracks, then spread it with a putty knife. If anyone has anything to add, or if I forgot something let me know. Doing the whole thing over again next weekend, I'll post results w/pics.

I need a little help with my floor (Updated) Empty Floors!

When I did the floors in my cave, I had to fill holes and remove lags, then grind down the surface to get it smooth and remove years of glue. The floor is about 30 years old and has had a multitude of equipment bolted to it and heavy objects dropped on it, etc. The space was an old cabinet and Corian shop. My plan was to epoxy the smooth concrete, but then decided to stain it instead with a texture to hide the remaining defects. I thought about it all during the rest of the renovation and decided that thin indoor/outdoor carpet (Lowe's) would be best for the areas where the vehicles would not be driven and then bought the roll-out vinyl mats for the parking areas. The vinyl looks great and stands up very well. It's heavy enough to stay put without glue. I then put the carpeting around the vinyl to the walls with very light carpet glue. The carpet was only about 50 cents a foot and is the same thickness and color as the vinyl. I used 10 x 22 foot vinyl sections available through Sam's club web site. (They don't sell the large pieces in the stores.) When all was done it was less expensive than the other options, the carpet improved the sound quality of the room and both are very easy to keep clean and look great.

Here's the best photo I have of that: http://web.me.com/bottieri/Bottieri/Man_Cave_Construction_2/Pages/Garage_4-22-009_2.html#1

You could do this right over the epoxy and solve the problem. The vinyl has not stained from anything yet. It's also available in several colors as is the carpeting at Lowe's. I like the results so much that I did the same thing in my garage at home. The vinyl was $250 for a 10 x 22 piece.
