Starting a new man cave on $200 budget for my husband
For the holidays we gave each other a $200 gift budget. I want to do something to start his man cave. We have a great finished basement. All he has in there is a black leather recliner, some glass end tables, a lamp, and a tv.
His dad has a small bar that he's going to give me for the space already. Even though my husband's not much of a drinker.
He's a huge football fan (Broncos).

Jackie_denver,
I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback on this so I'll get it started. When operating on a budget, one of the best places to pick-up Man Cave type stuff is eBay. I'd do a search of Bronco's stuff. I'm sure there is a ton of stuff out there faily cheep. You know him best, so I'm sure you know what he likes and needs for the cave. Neon is a little pricey, buy there are small sizes that may fit your budget. Something that hanges on the wall or even throw blankets to go on the couch or chair work. I'm sure once you start looking you'll get an idea of what would work best.
This is only one suggestion...I'm sure the guys will chime in and give you others.

I think you could find a great neon Broncos sign for that money. That would be a great addition, that would really stand out and be a focal point in the cave......
I'm a Seahawk fan (I know, I know), but my wife and F-I-L are Bronco fans....so Go Broncos (I guess...LOL!!!!)

I actually just got done creating a man cave on a $300 budget. If he is into games, then check craigslist. I was patient and eventually found a pretty decent non-slate pool table for $75 and a very nice wooden-cased dart board for $20. You can also find foosball, air hockey, ping pong, etc tables on there as well. The pool table didn't come with balls so I had to buy them for about $40 at Dicks. The cool thing about the pool table is that it doubles for a poker table as well. I also spent about $120 on 14 various sports memorabilia items on eBay. My suggestion is to go with 3' x 5' banners of his favorite sports teams. Once again, if you are patient, then you can find some good deals. Including shipping costs, I was able to get these banners for about $15 a piece. They are great because they are cheap but take up a lot of space on an empty wall. The rest of the money was spent on things like poster and jersey frames. Neon signs are great but expensive. If you're looking for quantity, then stay away from neon unless you can find something cheap. Another suggestion is to use stuff you already have. I had a couple jerseys and posters that I framed and put on the walls. I also had a mini fridge and speaker system that weren't in use so I just moved them into the cave. If he has any old photos, newspaper clippings, jerseys, etc from his "playing days" then put them on the wall as well. You would be surprised how much you can actually get for $200. You just have to be creative and patient. Good luck, I'm sure he is going to love it!

Ditto on the Craigslist suggestion. I check their free section every day. Many people get rid of things just because they're tired of them, moving, or some things are just plain heavy and they don't want to deal with them. I see free refrigerators, ping pong tables, air hockey tables etc... being given away for free regularly, and the other for sale areas wind up with some budget treasures as well. You have to be quick to reply though. I missed out on two 20' square pieces of brand new carpet with padding this morning due to not getting up early enough to call the guy.
